Permission to Heal
The discussion of health has been thrown into the spotlight since the 2020 pandemic began. The news has shown us pictures of seemingly “healthy” people who had a big response in their bodies to the COVID-19 Virus.
Discussions swirled around what co-morbidities were influential in the heightening of the virus.
People discussed the health benefits and risks of mask wearing, social distancing, and the mental effects of the changes on our children.
What shows up often in the discuss is an obvious lack of agreement on what health is. Is it just the lack of disease? The lack of symptoms? Maybe even based on “feeling fine.” Is the absence of pain enough to call a body healthy?
It leave me wondering, what happens when we take things (such as medication and even supplements) to suppress symptoms? The disease / problem is still present, is it not? And how do we discuss “feeling fine?” Some diseases are silent until that are in later stages that make recovery fairly rare.
For us, at Dover Health Care Center, Chiropractic, we view health as something that is more of an ongoing range. You have the severely ill end, where the body is in a state of dis-ease / severe and multiple problems and lots of pain.
Then there is the middle or neutral area of health. This is often when we may feel fine and our bodies are able to stay in homeostasis.
On the top of the range sits optimal health. This is where we are not just “functioning fine,” rather we are THRIVING in our health. Absent of disease, yes, but also all systems synergistically work at their best. It is the ability to ADAPT to the environmental changes without breaking down.
So, how do we go from where we are on the scale of health to living our most vibrant life? The first step, is to let our bodies heal.
We expect everything to be so immediate. Taking a vaccine does not suddenly make us healthy. Vaccines are created for protection.
Health must come from healing ourselves from the inside out.
The first part of healing is mindset. We need to be ready to heal and willing to put the work into the process. This includes healing the relationship with ourselves and with our community and family. It means being ready to give up the habits and lifestyle that does not serve our health.
As we all know, the healing process is not linear. The healing process is a dance to optimal health. It requires us to do the hard stuff. To dig deep, to heal the trauma so that it is not held in our body.
Our bodies need to be provided the nourishment and movement to produce the best environment for healing.
When we take this approach, it takes time, and it may not always feel good. When we nourish right, our body will get rid of the toxins in us and the inflammation. That shedding is not great in feeling, but great when we get the end result.
We also live in a world where we expect immediate results. But true results are earned over time.
For us at Dover Health Care Center, in Dover, DE, it is all about the process of healing.
We approach the body in a holistic manner to help you heal through balancing the nervous system so that your body can adapt to the world around it.
